Description:
The aim of the art commission is to provide an opportunity for artists, to develop a new work, influenced by the history, our country setting and the aspirations of our students, teachers, parents and community of Crookstown and the surrounding region.
Concept:
The 16 m long artwork made from flat relief ceramic shapes with illustrations on their surfaces form a flowing river to represent the school and community. Each shape depicts people, activities, landmarks, games, ideas, stories, history, friendship, school curriculum or other ideas which were generated from workshops with the school children and staff.
Inspired by the new school site near the river Greese the artwork celebrates a childhood spent in the area. The flow of creativity is celebrated throughout the artwork which were expanded through workshops and more research.
As well as depicting the history of the area, the artwork illustrates all the things you need to fuel your imagination: Music, art, travel, trying out new things, writing, singing, sailing, blowing bubbles, looking at clouds, making things, dreaming, having fun.
